Eric J. Del Piero, MD

An Award-Winning Ophthalmologist And Monterey Native

Eric J. Del Piero, MD, is a fellowship-trained retina and vitreous specialist and is certified as such by the American Board of Ophthalmology. 

Born and raised in Monterey County, Dr. Del Piero obtained a world-class education across America before returning home to treat his neighbors. He has been in private practice as an ophthalmologist in Monterey since July of 1985 and with Monterey County Eye Associates since July of 1998. After more than a decade of stellar ophthalmological care, he won the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Achievement Award in 1999.

Dr. Del Piero is also a University of California, San Francisco clinical instructor at Natividad Medical Center. He is Past President of the Monterey County Medical Society and served on the Board of Trustees of the California Medical Association, representing Monterey, King City, and San Benito Counties. His consistently excellent standard of care led his peers in the Monterey County Medical Society to name him the Monterey County Physician of the year in both 2006 and 2007.

Dr. Del Piero earned his bachelor’s from Johns Hopkins University, which is currently ranked as one of the top 10 best universities in America by U.S. News & World Report.

Medical School

He went on to attain his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine. 

Residency

He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of California, Irvine. 

Fellowship

Dr. Del Piero completed his fellowship training in San Francisco at the California Pacific Medical Center.
