Why Patients Choose Monterey
County Eye Associates for Eyelid Surgery

Oculoplastics Expertise

Your eyelid surgery is performed by ophthalmologists with oculoplastics capability, including Dr. Leland Rosenblum, who has practiced since 1994. Every surgeon on our team is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Coverage Made Clear

If your eyelids interfere with your vision, blepharoplasty may be more than cosmetic. We evaluate your visual fields, document the findings, and help you understand what your insurance may cover.

Care in Your Language

Spanish-speaking staff serve every office, and we coordinate your pre-op and post-op visits across our Monterey, Salinas, and King City locations so appointments stay convenient.

I have always had a very good experience with Dr. Rosenblum.  This week I had an unplanned visit for what I thought was an emergency.  The folks here got me in and checked out - very kindly and quickly - and happily, it was nothing serious.  I appreciate their kind attention and professionalism.” – Maggie, 5-Star Review

Blepharoplasty Cost
and Financing

The cost of blepharoplasty in Monterey, CA, depends on whether your procedure is functional or cosmetic. When your eyelids obstruct your vision, insurance may contribute to the cost. Our team performs the required evaluation and submits the supporting documentation to your insurance provider. Costs also vary with the extent of surgery, whether you treat upper lids, lower lids, or both, and the type of anesthesia used. You will receive a clear estimate after your consultation, before you schedule your procedure.

Cosmetic blepharoplasty is typically an out-of-pocket expense. Monterey County Eye Associates is flexible in financial matters: we accept most insurance plans and most major credit cards. Review our financial policies or ask our staff at any office, from Monterey to King City, to explain your options.

Is Your Blepharoplasty Functional or Cosmetic?

The answer shapes your treatment plan, your insurance coverage, and your costs, so your surgeon addresses it at your first evaluation.

  • Functional Blepharoplasty

  • Functional blepharoplasty treats eyelids that interfere with sight. If sagging upper lids narrow your field of view, we measure the loss with visual field testing and check for ptosis, a condition in which the lid itself droops. These documented results determine whether your surgery is medically necessary.
  • Cosmetic Blepharoplasty

  • Cosmetic blepharoplasty addresses signs of aging around the eyes. Removing excess skin and fatty tissue can reduce puffiness, lift hooded lids, and help you look as alert as you feel.

Are You a Candidate
for Eyelid Surgery?

Most blepharoplasty patients are 35 or older, though age matters less than the condition of your eyelids. You may be a good candidate if you notice sagging upper lids, puffiness around the eyes, or skin that hangs toward your lashes.

An evaluation at any of our offices in Monterey, Salinas, or King City can confirm whether eyelid surgery fits your goals. The strongest candidates are healthy adults with realistic expectations and no eye conditions that would make surgery unsafe. Your ophthalmologist will review your medical history and examine your eyes before recommending a plan.

An Outpatient Procedure at Accredited Facilities

Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure performed at the Monterey Peninsula Surgery Center and the Salinas Surgery Center, accredited facilities held to hospital-grade standards. Anesthesia is managed by their anesthesia teams, and your surgeon will recommend local or general anesthesia based on your needs. Most patients return home the same day.

Recovery After Blepharoplasty

Plan on a few days of rest right after surgery. Bruising typically fades within one to three weeks, and most patients feel comfortable in public within 10 to 14 days. Mild swelling can take up to three months to fully resolve as your results settle in. In the first days, cold compresses and keeping your head elevated help reduce swelling. Protect your eyes from sun and wind, and avoid strenuous activity until your surgeon clears you.

Most surgeons remove sutures within five to seven days, after which many patients resume light activities like reading or screen use, though eyes may feel dry at first. Keep in mind, artificial tears can help. Wait until your surgeon confirms your eyes have healed before wearing contact lenses or eye makeup again. Sunglasses are recommended outdoors, both to shield healing skin and ease light sensitivity. Sleeping with your head elevated at night can further reduce swelling in the first week.

Most patients resume light exercise within two weeks and full activity within four to six weeks, depending on healing. Keep every follow-up appointment, and contact your surgeon promptly if you notice unusual pain, bleeding, or vision changes.

Non-Surgical Options for the Eye Area

Surgery is not the only way to refresh your appearance. Monterey County Eye Associates also offers BOTOX® Cosmetic to address lines around the eyes and brow. During your consultation, your doctor can explain whether blepharoplasty, BOTOX, or a combination best fits your goals.

Blepharoplasty FAQs

Is blepharoplasty painful?

Blepharoplasty is performed under local or general anesthesia to virtually eliminate pain during the procedure. Afterward, bruising and swelling are the most common effects, and your care team will explain how to stay comfortable while you heal.

Can I combine BOTOX with eyelid surgery?

BOTOX and blepharoplasty address different concerns, so your doctor may recommend both, but timing is crucial. If you have eyelid surgery first, BOTOX treatment can typically resume about six weeks afterward.

Do you offer blepharoplasty near Salinas and King City?

Yes. Consultations and follow-up visits are available at our Salinas and King City offices as well as our two Monterey locations, so most of your care can happen close to home. Surgery itself is scheduled at one of our outpatient surgery centers.

How soon can I return to work after eyelid surgery?

Many patients who work from home return to their desks within one to three days. Jobs that involve more activity or public contact usually require more time off. Your surgeon will give you a personalized timeline at your pre-op visit.

“Welcoming space, friendly staff. Doctors are very knowledgeable. I went in to update my prescription and they recommended other things to help with my near sightedness. They also promote eye care.”
